Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE Unlocked Phone Review, Features And Specification

The Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE was released in April 2015. The phone was aimed to be a mid-range device to compete with the rival android phones, which dominate the mid-range and low-range market. There are five models of the Lumia 640, with the first one having a dual sim option and it is 3G enabled, the second one has a single sim slot, and supports LTE, while the last one has two sim card slots, and both support LTE. The Lumia 640 unlocked phone is a big-step forward from its predecessors, and have various improved features.

Display

The Phone set off from its predecessors, and it has received an update for the display. The display is a 5.0-inch full HD 720p IPS LCD display. It is comparable to iPhone’s retina display, has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, and has 294 pixels per inch (ppi) density. The phones also boasts of a filter, which can reduce the glare, called ClearBack, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects the whole display. The viewing angles on the device are great; however, the colors may look a bit dull to some people. Thankfully, the screen’s saturation, contrast, brightness can be changed in the screen setting, making the display better for many.

Processor

The chipset used in the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 along with a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. As the Windows Phone are not as demanding as Android phones, the chipset works fine despite being one of the older chips. The phone has been specifically optimized to run on this hardware, and hence offers better performance. The device offers a lag-free browsing experience, and you will not be experiencing any shutters except for when playing or using graphic intensive applications.

Battery

The phone is packed with a 2,500 mAh removable battery, but with several new flagships models getting 3000 or even more capacity battery, people may think that the Lumia will lack in power. However, that is not the case at all, as the phone can last as much as any other smartphone or even more. The phone can last at least 3 days on moderate usage. The standby time while browsing the web, and playing videos was an impressive 10 hours.

User Interface

The phone operates on the Windows 8.1 (Update 2) operating system, and features the latest Lumia denim software package. The phone is promised to receive the Windows 10 update as soon as it releases commercially. The windows 8.1 OS adds several new features to the phone, and offers a better and clean setting menu. The personal assistant Cortana, along with the search menu, all are optimized to work better on the phone.

Camera

The phone consists of an 8 MP autofocus camera, with an LED flash. The interface of the camera remains the same, with it offering the same features as before. The camera is great for casual photography, and captures decent amount of details, while the images appear sharp. Sometime the color may appear yellowish, but it is not always the case. There is also a secondary 1 MP camera available, and can be used for video conferencing.

1. Lack of apps in the Windows store as compared with Android.
